Reformation 2002 - Present
Prepared Records

Reformation is an ongoing research and performance project initiated by Shaw in 2002 focusing primarily on the art of abstract turntablism. In his live performances, Shaw deconstructs and reconstructs records by cutting them up like a pizza and reconfiguring them into halves, thirds, fourths, fifths etc using multiple turntables to mix them in and out of time. From minimal techno to harsh breakcore and noise, Shaw builds a multitude of beats and rhythms by applying a mixture of textures and surfaces onto the vinyl plates, deleting the original content and replacing it with things such as stickers, plasters, masking tape and wallpaper. In the project Mixtape 2003, Shaw replaced the needles on his decks with tape heads from cassette players in order to record onto and playback audiotape and other materials coated with ferric oxide.
